  1. For some people, psychological validity is a useful substitute for objective validity. They may not have the time or interest to collect and evaluate enough information to objectively form and test their opinions.

Instead they make a psychological investment in psychologically or externally generated opinions, and only need confirmation that their investment is correct. Such confirmation is readily available from the many political opinion programs on radio and TV that provide cognitive reassurance to people who want it.

For some people, the government appears to threaten the very existence of their way of life and their system of values. This perceived threat may have modest objective validity, but it has total psychological validity. Every means of defense is justified.
